Moving house is always a challenge no matter what season you decide to move in. But if you plan to move this summer, then you need to be ready for the unique challenges a summer move presents.

To stay safe and stress-free on the day of your upcoming summer move, be ready to combat the summer heat in the following ways.

Hire movers to avoid heat exhaustion

Summers in Australia can be very hot. Because of this, if you tackle your move alone, you run the risk of suffering heat exhaustion, especially if you have lots of bulky furniture to move. Hire professional movers to do the heavy lifting while you take care of the planning and organizing, which is just as important.

Kick off moving day as early as possible

Try to book your movers to arrive as early as possible preferably during the cool hours of the morning. This way, you can get the bulk of the heavy lifting done before the worst of the summer heat hits in the afternoon.

Turn on the air conditioning

If you are unable to start your move early in the morning, then you need to be ready to combat the worst of the day's heat. The hottest time of the day is usually at about 3pm. One way to stay cool as you move backwards and forwards is to turn on your air conditioning.

This will be especially pleasant for your movers as they carry heavy items of furniture and heavy boxes to the moving truck.

Have sunscreen and wet towels at the ready

If you are unlucky enough to move on a scorching hot day with clear skies, you'll need to have some sunscreen and wet towels at the ready. If you have young children, you can assign this job to them. Whenever you and your movers feel overwhelmed by the heat, your children can pass around the wet towels for a spot of relief.

Keep a change of clothes handy

If you and your family plan to get involved in the loading and unloading of the removals truck, be sure to prepare a change of clothes. These will come in handy when you arrive at your new home hot, sweaty and bothered.

Keep heat-sensitive items out of the sun

On a very hot day, certain items won't fare very well in the sweltering temperatures of a moving truck, especially if you are moving long distance. Keep things like hairspray, cans of drink and fire extinguishers back with you. Don't put them on the moving truck. The best thing to do is to take them in a separate vehicle that has air conditioning.

The same applies to electronics, medicine and sensitive items like candles. Either put these things on the truck last or take them in a separate vehicle.

Keep yourself and your movers hydrated

Another job that your children could do during your move is to keep you and the movers supplied with cold drinks. This will help to keep you and your removalists hydrated and help to keep heat exhaustion at bay. Be sure to arrange short breaks for the moving crew too if you notice that they are exhausted or suffering in the heat.

Prepare a cool area for children and pets

Finally, if you have pets or young children in your house at the time of the move, ensure that they have a cool place to wait while your movers load the truck. On a hot day, when the chaos of a move is in full swing, children and pets are better off relaxing somewhere cool and out of the way.

If you prepare for your summer move in these ways, you can ensure that you and your movers get the job done without a hitch despite the heat.
